LEXI takes a look at the age-old paradoxes between children born into lives of wealth and poverty. There are plenty of twists and turns, drama, danger and excitement along the way as Lexi - who has woken from unconciousness in a forest and remembers nothing of her former life - starts to unravel her origins - and what on earth led her to be in the forest in the first place. Will the reader guess the startling truth before the climax?
The child street myths which give LEXI a magical feel were inspired by the "Myths Over Miami" story which appeared as a news item online in 1998 and spread around the internet, causing much interest and debate. I note part of this debate was about the possibility of authors "stealing" the children's stories. I'm pleased to say, the children (characters) in my book own their stories, their myths - and voice them themselves. Typically, however, I wish to make clear LEXI is not set in any particular place - the issues within it are worldwide.
As in my other books, possibilities are left open for the reader to mull over and discuss - magic or reality, or both?
LEXI also looks at the difficulties in tackling homelessness while offering a positive attitude to this in an easily understandable way for youngsters - ideal for social studies in the classroom.
